Stuck on connecting to PC My 2 friends and I have been playing terraria for the past week or so with no issue, but all of a sudden, yesterday when I tried to join his server, I was stuck on "Connecting to" for a long time and never able to join.
Now, on my PC @ my house, with tmodloader downloaded but not used, it no longer works. Though what do you mean by keeping the current game instance open? I know there are a lot of threads and discussions on this online, but none of their solutions have worked for me. Furthermore, that was only on my laptop (Mac) and I have never been able to try with my PC. Previously it would say "Connecting To *username*". We all use "Host & Play" in game, it always used to work over the TerrariaServer.exe. I've been trying to connect via steam to a friend's world, and am stuck on the connecting screen. It happens, sometimes your friend restarting the host world helps. It just seems that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, Press J to jump to the feed. Them restarting worked every time. Another solution posted in the online forums is to configure firewall settings, but does not specify what "hidden settings" in Windows Firewall to turn off. I had the same problem several times Restarting pc works for me. When I press "join game" when a friend sends me a join request, the screen shows "Joining [player name]" as expected, but then after a long time changes to "Connecting to [player name]" and does not resolve or join the game from there. I'm having the exact same problem. Edit: We’ve tried everything—restarting Terraria, Steam, and even the whole computer. Whatsmyip.com link: http://whatsmyip.com/ I now play through Steam on PC. Nothing has worked.
We’ve tried restarting terraria, quitting steam, restarting the whole computer, to no avail. Press J to jump to the feed. I've looked up the issue, and the only solution I could find was to validate the files, but when I do that it says that 1 file failed to validate and it will reacquire it, but it never actually does. Some history that may? I've tried restarting steam, restarting my laptop, reinstalling Terraria, you name it. Hi guys it's my second tutorial about terraria.I hope you like it.
Connecting via Steam gets stuck on this, and we're trying via IP now. I now play through Steam on PC. One online solution to this pretty common problem is to go into Terraria game files and to use the files named "start-server-steam-friends.bat" to connect to friends. It also seems to work more often on certain wifi networks than others, which rarely or never work. I already have firewall set to let Terraria through. It always worked when I was on school/cafe wifi, or when my friend and I were both on the same wifi (even at my house). My 2 friends and I have been playing terraria for the past week or so with no issue, but all of a sudden, yesterday when I tried to join his server, I was stuck on "Connecting to" for a long time and never able to join. Try getting your friend to restart their game.
My friend also hasn’t had any trouble connecting to anyone else so I’m assuming it’s a problem on my end. I know there are a lot of threads and discussions on this online, but none of their solutions have worked for me.

Ultimately, the only solution to this problem I've found in the past that works 100% of the time is to be on the same wifi network as my friend, which obviously is impossible during shelter-in-place at the moment, and impractical anytime else. It would work once or twice in the beginning when playing at my house, but soon started never working. Does anyone know how to fix this? My friend then lent me his old laptop (running Windows) and it worked everywhere, even when I was at home and my friend was elsewhere. I waited and figured it might be servers, but today, my other friend was able to join the server, while I was still met with "Connecting to".
